Why hasn’t anyone told me about his band?! I mean, I was searching far and wide today for something new and fresh, and all hope was running out. I had listened to new Mat Kearney (no)… Fruit Bats (which isn’t all that bad)… And then I found Other Lives. Come on followers, you gots to let me know when there is a jammin’ band out there that I need to post about!
It’s okay. I love you. I forgive you. Come over for brunch.
Here is Other Lives performing “For 12” on KEXP Seattle Radio.
It’s nice to see Sam Beam looking like his ol’ burly self again.
So, here’s a 4AD set featuring Iron & Wine in Miloco Recording Studios in London.
The setlist is as follows:
It’s a very intimate acoustic session, and I think you should check it out.
Tumblr is such a beautiful thing.
I was rummaging blindcreative’s blog (music appreciation plug for the day) and found this incredible acoustic version of Matt Bishop’s “Rio”. There is no other word that could adequately describe this more than delicate. I hope everyone is having a great Sunday, but take a small little break and enjoy.
Warm wishes to all.
Today, I’m going to talk about a little lad I know. Somewhere deep in the marshes of southern Louisiana, there is a young man who is striving to move the masses with a voice and an acoustic guitar. If you aren’t aware of life in such a state, let me tell you, it ain’t easy. You know the saying, “Pimping ain’t easy.” Well, “Shrimping ain’t easy.” It’s about the same thing.
But I digress.
Today is devoted to promoting a little “hometown” music from your hometown. Feel free to follow along, reminisce, raise up your little nook in the middle of nowhere. We will not judge!
Meet Blind Pilot
For fans of: Fleet Foxes, The Shines, Iron and Wine
There is a lot of indie these days that kind of “slurs together.” You may know what I’m talking about. Take a couple of songs from random folk albums, throw them together on a mix tape, and see if you can spot the differences. What Blind Pilot does is take the good aspects of the modern folk scene and perfects them even further. It’s the folk you love, only better.
Go On, Say It. It’s good music.
Meet Denison Witmer
For fans of: Cat Stevens, Nick Drake, fingerpicking.
Finding the need to shake off those beginning-of-the-week blues? Well, let all Pennsylvania rejoice for their own Denison Witmer, an indie singer-songwriter relying on sweet complex fingerpicking and cool vocal stylings. Lyrics of pure poetry accompanied by sweeping acoustics, Witmer puts you in the middle of a subtle breeze on a clear blue day, but leaves you to find the girl. So yeah, it’s Monday, but it doesn’t mean it has to feel like one.
Here is Little Flowers live.
Meet Bon Iver
For fans of: Iron and Wine, Fleet Foxes, Feist.
With his ambient vocal and wanting instruments, Justin Vernon leads Bon Iver over mountains, through streams, and down meadows of glorious melody and peace. With their EP Blood Bank, we are given 4 simple straightforward songs that are nowhere near what anyone else in the indie world is doing right now. With the release of their debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, we can only exist within the beauty of aching guitar and soaring vocals.
Gracing the Letterman stage, without further ado, here is Skinny Love.
